![]() The ACE pistols were made so they could be easily converted to. ![]() The SM serial numbers (far as I can find out) ran from SM14001-SM43830. Two to Three grand of a Colt gets into Baer, Wilson and Nighthawk territory and those custom house pieces are the best of the best in 1911s. They are nice guns no doubt but I sold a Colt Special Combat model to get a Gold Cup National Match if that tells you anything. Unless you plan on keeping it forever and are emotionally attached to it. While they hold their value you are better off with a newer model then paying high retail for an older 1911. IMO anything more than 1200 dollars for a standard Colt 1911 is too much. ![]() In my experience with Colt, they always under-inflate and make a lot more of a gun then what they always say. I own a GC National Match and have owned several Colt limited edition models. They typically are not good shooters but better off as safe queen investments. Old Colts do not impress me unless they are SAA or late 1800s models. It is a 70s model which they do bring more but evidently there are more than 3000 since you have picture 35XX in the series. Understand there were maybe 3000 of these. Apparently the SM prefix is unusual and associated with a Service ACE?
